Buliza washing station has been running since 2007 and is owned by the ABOKAMU cooperative, consisting of 189 producers.
Upon arrival to the washing station cherries are pulped on a disc pulper being fermented underwater for 24-36 hours. When this is complete, the coffee is washed and sorted in grading channels. From here the coffee is moved to raised beds to be sun dried. Which takes an average of 7-10 days. Techniques to prolong drying time under shade is increasingly being adopted.
